Official measurements turn out to be off: The Galaxy Z Fold7 and Oneplus discover that the N5 is thicker than expected.
Samsung does not include protruding bezel in its measurements
Like Oppo did a few weeks ago, Samsung is marketing the Galaxy Z Fold7 as the thinnest foldable in the world for its July debut, but the official numbers don't exactly hold up to close examination. This also explains why the Galaxy Z Fold6 successor has different thickness specifications.
Since the related data sheet contains measurements down to the millimeter, you can typically discover the information you need if you're seeking for the official dimensions of a smartphone. False. At least for foldables, manufacturers appear to have developed peculiar measurement techniques that, although rationally sound, appear to be highly capricious.
The ball started when well-known French leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer, also known as @OnLeaks, recently requested from the X community the precise measurements of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 (which is sold on Amazon). He was more interested in finding out how thick the Samsung foldable is in real life than what the info sheet claimed. His February measurement of the soon-to-be-launched Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7's thickness, based on a CAD module, was 4.5 mm, which was surpassed by 3.9 mm, which was provided by equally trustworthy leaker Ice Universe.
